IMPORTANT SNAP UPDATE for Virginia’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community
(as of October 29, 2025)

Change Coming in November!
Because of the federal government shutdown, regular SNAP (food assistance) payments may be delayed.

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that Virginia will use state “surplus funds” to keep food benefits going.
The state has created a temporary program called Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA).
 - Funds will go onto the same EBT card you already use for SNAP.

When Will You Get Your Benefits?
Benefits will come weekly, not monthly:

If you normally get benefits Nov 1 → you’ll receive them Mon Nov 3

If you normally get benefits Nov 3 → you’ll receive them Wed Nov 5

If you normally get benefits Nov 7 → you’ll receive them Fri Nov 7

After that, benefits will continue every week — on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, depending on your normal schedule.

You don’t need to re-apply. Benefits will appear on your current EBT card.

* Important Notes
Payments may be smaller and weekly instead of one monthly deposit.

If your benefits don’t appear on the expected day, check your EBT balance or contact your local Department of Social Services (DSS).

Local food banks may help if your benefits are delayed.

This state program will continue only while funding allows or until the federal shutdown ends.
