This workshop explores how to refine interpreting skills by strengthening visual imagery and analyzing context-dependent vocabulary. Participants will examine how meaning is shaped through visual clarity and how to apply these concepts in their interpreting work.

  • Educational Objectives:
    * Analyze the differences between English-influenced signing and ASL.
    * Select more conceptually accurate signs and apply ASL grammatical principles effectively.
    * Discuss and demonstrate visual strategies for expressing multiple meanings in ASL.

NOTES: Handouts will be provided. The workshop will be presented in ASL, and no voice interpretation will be available.

Trix’s workshops benefit participants at every level. Many advanced interpreters have shared that they enjoy learning updated or unfamiliar signs, including regional variations. They also appreciate when she demonstrates how to translate messages into ASL rather than signing English word for word.

Interpreters consistently report that her workshops are valuable both for review and for discovering how new tools they can apply in their professional work. Students have also mentioned that the sessions help them better understand how to approach their own projects, research, and practice more effectively.
