Jonathan graduated from Lake Forest College (in Illinois) and then earned a Masters Degree in Physics from Washington State University. He joined the Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Program, initially as an instructor and served in the Navy for 24 years, as an Engineering Duty Officer. Following Naval service, Jonathan worked for several Federal agencies, primarily in the area of emergency management and preparedness. Since retiring, in addition to participating in various NVRC activities, Jonathan volunteers with the Fairfax County Department of Emergency Management and the Medical Reserve Corps (a volunteer arm of the Health Department) and serves as the Public Safety Committee Chairman for the South County Federation. Additionally, Jonathan is an active soccer referee, primarily for youth soccer matches. Jonathan started wearing hearing aids while still in the Navy in the 1990s and his hearing has progressively worsened over the years.
