Jill Moebus

Jill Moebus was born deaf in East Liverpool, Ohio to a hearing family.  She enrolled in DePaul Institute for the Deaf in Pittsburg, PA; then attended the New Jersey School for the Deaf in West Trenton, NJ, graduating in 1967.  Following high school, Jill attended Gallaudet University, earning a History of Arts degree in 1972. Jill moved to the Washington DC area and began working as an Assistant at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in 1973.  After thirty-six years at USGS, Jill retired in 2009 as a communication artist working on organization publications.

Jill is a long-time resident of Loudoun County, VA, and is a member of the Virginia Association of the Deaf (VAD), the Northern Virginia Association of the Deaf (NVAD), Deaf Seniors of America (DSA), and Happy Hands Deaf Seniors.  She has been involved in selling VAD merchandise (Ten Reasons for Learning Sign Language shirts) for 20 years. Jill also joined her church sponsored mission trips to both Ukraine and Uganda to provide aide to local communities, including local churches and orphanages that support deaf children.

Jill has been a member of NVRC since its establishment in the 1980’s and regularly participates in a wide variety of NVRC activities and events.  She was voted onto the NVRC Board of Directors in 2017. Jill’s purpose in life is to serve people with a happy smile.
