Walter Gawlak

Walter was born and raised in Fairfax, Virginia, and has lived in Northern Virginia his whole life. He began his career as a veterinary technician at an emergency animal hospital, rising to lead technician and relief manager, where he handled high-pressure situations, large teams, and late-night surgeries. After an injury, he transitioned to freelance graphic design and software development, sparking a passion for intellectual property. From there, he became a Pro Se inventor and later the Director of Intellectual Property for a fast-growing DC startup.

The startup world gave Walter the momentum to pursue a deeply personal passion: preserving the wisdom and stories of family and friends before they are lost. He began developing software to help document and organize memories for people, particularly seniors, so they can tell their life story and reflect on their cherished moments. Walter currently works on this startup as a member of the NoVA Technology Council. By day, he conducts Applied Behavioral Analysis therapy with children facing disabilities, particularly autism. With continued research into memory decline, developmental issues, and the impact of hearing loss on memory, Walter contributes to NVRC’s initiatives by developing innovative software solutions and advising on the integration of modern technology to enhance its mission.
