Social Security Benefits for Disabled Widows or Widowers

If your spouse dies you may be able to receive benefits on his or her record as early as age 50 if you have a disability and meet other requirements. Social Security benefits may be payable to a widow, widower or surviving divorced spouse with a disability between ages 50 and 60 if the disability began before, or within seven years of, the worker’s death.
