Deaf & Hard of Hearing Community Day

George Washington’s Boyhood Home at Ferry Farm

Sunday , October 5, 2014   –  2:00 PM

Guided tours of the

  • archaeology lab
  • Washington Farm dig site
  • museum gallery exhibits
  • 18th-century demonstration garden

As part of the Stafford County 350th Celebration, come Tell Your Stafford Story!

Tours will be led by archaeology lab Supervisor Melanie Marguis and translated by ReBecca Bennett using American Sign Language.

DIRECTIONS TO GEORGE WASHINGTON’S FERRY FARM: From Interstate 95, take Exit 130 heading East on Route 3. After about 1 mile, you will drive down a long hill. At the bottom of the hill, move to the left lane as you pass under a highway bridge (Route 1). Turn left on Route 3 Business (William St.). Follow William St. through downtown Fredericksburg and cross over the Rappahannock River (be sure you are in the right lane after crossing the bridge). Continue on Route 3 Business East to the third traffic light at the intersection of Ferry Road. As you pass through the traffic light you will see Ferry Farm on your right. The entrance is about 1/10 mile past Ferry Road.

BY CAR,  if driving on I-66 East:

Take US 29 South to Rosslyn. Left onto Key Bridge, Right onto M Street, Left onto 33rd St, Right onto Prospect St. Look for parking garage on your left.

PARKING:
Two parking facilities are immediately available.

First parking garage is next to “George” on Prospect St.
** As you enter the garage keep left so the driver can get the parking ticket. **
Parking rate is $5 per hour. You pay at the vending machine when you leave (Bring your parking ticket with you).
After parking, walk up the ramp onto the sidewalk. When facing the buildings, Café Milano with the tall clock and flags on the upper story will be on your right.
Between the garage and Café Milano is a walkway. Go down this walkway to the end and George will be in the corner on the left.

Second parking garage is Doggett’s Parking lot an outside parking lot across Prospect street from Café Milano which provides valet parking.
Parking rate is $6 for the first hour and $17 for 61 min to 10 hours.

Both parking facilities accept credit cards.

After enjoying the 25th  Anniversary Celebration, you may want to enjoy dinner at one of the many outstanding and famous restaurants nearby within walking distance.

2. By Public Transportation:

  1. Take Metrorail to Rosslyn Metro Station, go up to street level to take the DC Circulator bus to Georgetown.
  2. The DC Circulator bus stop is located at the corner of 19th St., N & N. Moore St. 1/2 block down the street from Rosslyn Metro [see attached map]
  3. Get off at M St. NW and Potomac St. NW [see attached map]  and walk around the block to George.

Fee: $1.50 cents if you are coming from Metrorail. For seniors or persons with disabilities, 50 cents or free if coming from Metrorail.

Weekend parking (Saturday and Sunday) at Metro parking garages, such as the one at Vienna Metro, is free.

The DC Circulator bus fee is $1 regular or 50 cents coming Metrorail and  50 cents if for senior/disabled or free coming by from Metrorail. You can hop on near the Rosslyn Metro Station. It stops at the corner of 19th St North and North Moore Street, just ½ block down Moore Street from Rosslyn Metro station. The suggested stop closest to George (3251 Prospect Street NW) is at M Street NW/Potomac St. NW.

The bus runs every 10 minutes or so, depending on the traffic or driver.
The hours of operation on this “DuPont Circle-Georgetown-Rosslyn” bus route run from 7 am to 2 am on Friday and Saturday.
