Online Cued Speech Class – Gallaudet – Center for Continuing Studies

What will you learn?
This course covers two critical areas in Beginner Cued Speech-skills development and context. The skills portion of this course covers all eight handshapes and phonemes used in the system then focuses on developing proficient expressive skills and beginning receptive skills. This course also covers related topics such as the various applications of cued American English and evidence based use with children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Discussions on various ways how cued American English and American Sign Language can be immersed in a variety of settings will also take place.

PAH – Take an ASL class this summer!

Join us for a six week class that will help you improve your ASL. This class will be taught in ASL only by a Deaf teacher. It’s recommend that you have completed at least one semester of ASL to attend this class.

Beginner ASL (6 weeks) 

Beginner ASL is an introductory course to American Sign Language, the Community and the Culture. Students will learn fingerspelling, numbers, gestures, glossing and an introduction to ASL signs.

Conversational ASL (6 weeks)

Conversational ASL is a 6-week course focusing on fingerspelling, numbers, gestures, expressions and signs practiced through games, break out groups, role playing and songs.

DEAF HATHA YOGA CLASS – Starts – Sept. 6

TIME: 9 am to 10:30 am

WHERE: This is the Center, 4321 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20016 (behind the Z Burger) it is on second floor.  NOTE – please arrive 15 minutes before class otherwise the door will be locked and text or e mail me if you are unable to open the door.

The class is designed and tailored to fit at beginner’s level and it will be slow pace movement.  Practicing slow breathing, learn about the posture alignment, and the basic foundation of the pose will prepare you to be alert, optimistic and relax at the end of the class. The yoga props will be provided at the Center.  Disclaimer: Please discuss with your physician if you have any concerns about your health prior to participating this yoga class.

Barbara Eger-Klatt is Deaf and certified as 200 E-RYT Hatha Yoga Teacher.  She communicates in ASL that resonates with the Deaf community in Washington, DC metro area. Please contact Barbara, if you have any questions or concerns.

Adult CPR & First Aid Class in ASL – June 8th

Adult CPR and First Aid Class in ASL on June 8th!

Come and learn how to perform Adult CPR and First Aid entirely taught in ASL by a Red Cross certified instructor. The class will be held on June 8th from 9 am – 3 pm and lunch will be provided. The class will be held in Woodbridge at the Prince William County Government Complex in Woodbridge, VA.

The training is free to residents of Woodbridge, Dale City, Quantico, Dumfries Montclair, Manassas (20112 only) and Stafford (22554 and 22556 only). If you do not live in those areas the cost is $50, which includes lunch. Class size limited to 10 people. For more information email cw@pahdeaf.org.
