NVRC launches its much-anticipated Speaker Series by welcoming Steven Gordon, Assistant United States Attorney, who will give a program about Discrimination in Health Care Settings. During his presentation, Mr. Gordon will discuss the obligation of health care providers to provide effective communication to patients (and companions) who are deaf or hard of hearing, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  Additionally, Mr. Gordon will discuss recent enforcement actions and settlements including those in Northern Virginia.

Steven Gordon has been with the Department of Justice since 1995.  He is currently the Coordinator of the Civil Rights initiative for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.  His civil rights docket includes the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) and Fair Housing and Lending cases.  Mr. Gordon has recently settled ADA effective communication cases with a skilled nursing facility, a psychiatric hospital and an orthopedic practice.
