| Happy New Year to one and all! If you have stumbled upon this blog, I’m interested in knowing if there are issues about hearing loss that you would like to chat about? What concerns you the most? Do you have a loved one who is losing his or her hearing? Do you have questions about hearing aids? Are any relationships suffering because of a hearing loss?On another note, I spent a lot of time over New Year’s weekend thinking about the relentless, selfless advocacy efforts of hundreds if not thousands of people over the years, and how I, for one, have been the beneficiary of these efforts. Cheryl loaned me her entire collection of Foyle’s War, which I had not watched as it unfolded on PBS. It ranks, in my opinion, among the finest dramas ever produced on television, a look at British life in the countryside during World War II. And I got to relish every moment of every episode because they were captioned. It’s so easy to take for granted all the advances that have been made on behalf of the deaf and hard of hearing communities, and I know we often forget to appreciate just what it took to make these advances possible.Let’s make advocates our heroes this year! |
