Virginia Commonwealth University has extended the Fall 2011 application deadline until July 1st for applicants who are qualified for this traineeship program.

Qualifications:

Already have a bachelor’s degree, have strong sign skills, have strong academic ability, and commit to working as a rehabilitation counselor with people who are deaf or hard of hearing in state vocational rehabilitation agencies after graduation.

Traineeships cover all tuition and fees, funding up to $2000 for computer equipment, and a stipend for books, as well as all required travel to attend the one-week session at Helen Keller National Center in New York and two weeks at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Other than these three one-week intensive sessions, all coursework is completed online.

Traineeships are also available for qualified applicants (with strong sign skills) who already have a related master’s degree but need a post-graduate advanced certificate to become eligible for the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor credential.
