Services for LeRoy Christian
|LeRoy Christian passed at about 9:30 pm on Wednesday, March 21.
Said his good friend Esther Schaeffer, “For the past 13 days he completed this part of his journey, as he did life, by fighting the good fight. We believe he is now with Jesus and completely healed. For that we are thankful.”
The NVRC staff will miss his enthusiasm, kindness, sense of humor, and his many other admirable qualities. He always brought good cheer to our office and we looked forward to his visits.
We were very glad to see his many contributions to the deaf community honored last year by the Northern Virginia Association of the Deaf, which gave LeRoy its Reuben I. Altizer Award for his lifetime of leadership in deaf sports. He was the first recipient of a “Special Recognition Award” for deaf bowlers and was elected to the USA Deaf Sports Federation Hall of Fame primarily for his accomplishments as a duckpin bowler. LeRoy also had a talent for golf; he won the Southeast Deaf Golf Association tournament in 1990.
