Facility Standards Update

Webinar Series

 

This 3-part webinar series will focus on highlights of the new 2010 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards for Accessible Design. The new Standards, adopted by the Department of Justice in 2010, will become mandatory for use on March 15, 2012.

 Find out what’s been added, removed, revised, and reorganized. Learn what’s new from parking to plumbing!

 When?

• Tuesday, January 31

• Tuesday, February 7

• Tuesday, February 14

All at 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Eastern

Session 1 (January 31, 2012)

This session will establish the foundation for the series. Participants will learn about the background of the Standards and where they fit in with other rules, codes, and standards; important regulatory provisions, such as the “safe harbor” allowances; new information about conventions and tolerances; new application and scoping provisions, including new general exceptions; and the new structure and format of the Standards.

Session 2 (February 7, 2012)

This session will address highlights of specific scoping provisions and technical specifications. Participants will learn about new or revised requirements related to “building blocks” (clearances, reach ranges, etc.) general site and building elements, accessible routes, plumbing elements, and communication features such as emergency alarm systems and signage.

Session 3 (February 14, 2012)

This session will continue to address highlights of specific scoping provisions and technical specifications. Participants will learn about new or revised requirements related to assembly areas, kitchens, transient lodging guest rooms, jails and prisons, residential dwelling units, and recreation facilities.

Your office! The webinar format allows you to participate online from the comfort of your location!

How Much?

The cost is $50 for each participant for the full series. For an additional $20, you can receive a hard copy both of the U.S. Department of Justice publications: “2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design”, and the “Guidance on the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design.”

What if I can’t make all the dates?

The webinar series will be archived. Registrants will be provided information on how to access the archives. Participants are urged to listen to the first session before participating in the second or third.

Can I get continuing education credits?

The webinar series is approved for 4.5 LU/HSW from the American Institute of Architects (AIA). We also offer a certificate of participation.
