November 7, 2011 in Uncategorized
The Mobility and Transportation Committee (M&T) wants your help in achieving a multi-modal transportation system for the Fairfax area linked to the metropolitan region that affords personal independence, choice, mobility, and full participation in all aspects of society to individuals regardless of age, disability or economic status in a safe, accessible, affordable, reliable, timely, and sustainable manner.

Please join our committee! We meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month, 6-8 p.m., usually at the Fairfax County Government Center. Please email jill.clark@fairfaxcounty.gov for the room number.

Accomplishments so far:

• Achieved the commitment of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and Virginia Department of Transportation to ensure that street intersections by Tysons Silver Line Metro Stations have audible pedestrian signals or an overhead crosswalk.

• Developed recommendations to reduce the time and costs to improve the accessibility of bus stops and bus shelters.

• Recommended that Fairfax County establish a Mobility Manager position to form partnerships in matching transportation needs with transportation resources.

M&T jointly reports to the Fairfax Area Long Term Care Coordinating Council & Fairfax Area Disability Services Board, serving Fairfax County and the Cities of Fairfax and Falls Church.
