New Contractor Position Opening at NVRC

NVRC is seeking a resident of Prince William County to join our team as a part-time Contractor. This position will bring services to seniors aging with hearing loss, their families, friends, and caregivers in Manassas and Woodbridge as part of NVRC’s new HEAR-PWC grant (Hearing Education Access and Resources), funded by the Potomac Health Foundation.

 

Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Scheduling and presenting NVRC’s 3-part  “I Can’t Hear You!” programs in senior centers and assisted living facilities.
  • Scheduling and presenting NVRC’s hearing loss awareness training programs for the County’s Agency on Aging and assisted living facilities staff
  • Staffing exhibits for NVRC at two senior-focused health and wellness expos
  • Convening hearing loss support groups at senior centers and/or assisted living facilities
  • Preparing all materials for presentations
  • · Collecting program evaluations to document attendee comprehension and satisfaction
  • Writing interim and final reports for the grant funding cycle
  • Entering monthly activity data into NVRC’s reporting system
  • Participating in NVRC special events, such as Celebrate Communication

 

Contractor will receive training and support from NVRC staff.  HEAR has been the cornerstone of NVRC’s outreach programs in Arlington and Fairfax Counties as well as the City of Alexandria for many years, and we are excited to extend this program to Prince William County.

 

Our ideal candidate is a late-deafened adult who is familiar with hearing aids and/or cochlear implants, comfortable with hearing assistive technologies, and fluent in the use of communication strategies for people with hearing loss.  Outstanding public speaking skills essential.  Previous experience in mentoring people with hearing loss would be preferable.
