Medical Conditions that can cause hearing loss:

Deafness and hearing loss can be caused by a variety of medical conditions.  These include:

• Otosclerosis, or ossifications on the stapes bone in the middle ear

• Autoimmune disorders

• Auditory neuropathy

• Otitis Media (ear infection)

• Acoustic neuromas (benign tumors on the 8th cranial nerve)

• Meniere’s Disease

• Presbycusis

Other causes of hearing loss can include:

• head trauma
• excessive exposure to loud noise
• genetics
• ototoxic medications
